Molly's Ballet Class Observation Day

Molly's little ballet class had a parent observation day in December.  Molly got to be a lamb.  She asked me to please bring her flowers for her special performance.  How could I say no to this cute face? Molly loves to dance and loves her sweet teacher!

Hot Cocoa Stand

As parents, we hope to turn our children's hearts outwards year round, to focus on helping others, as we have been taught by our Savior's example.  Especially during the month of December, we want them to think more about giving than receiving.

This year, our children joined together with a few neighborhood friends to host an after school hot cocoa stand for charity.

They chose to raise money for the Children's Cardiomyopathy Foundation, because Molly's closest friend in our new neighborhood has been recently diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy.

The children got together one afternoon and made posters for the event.

Andrew, Ryan, and Molly distributed 200 fliers to our neighbors.  (There are no pictures of Ryan, who was super speedy in his delivery).

And of course, the children ran the hot cocoa stand.  We ordered and received perfect weather for the day.  :)  Over 80 friends and neighbors dropped by and the children raised $320 in the two hours they were open for business.   It was wonderful to see the children work together to serve.  Andrew did not leave the cocoa stand the entire two hours.  He was so dedicated.  Molly and Ryan lasted an entire hour and a half, until they wanted to go play with all of their friends who came by for cocoa.  All three were such great helpers!

The best part of the afternoon was seeing our entire community come together to support a great cause.  We seriously have moved into the best neighborhood.    I love it here!

Nativity Festival

Our new stake hosted a Nativity Festival and we got to attend with the kids this evening.  There were hundreds of beautiful nativities from all over the world.  Beautiful live Christmas music played in the background by community musicians. They had done such a good job making it engaging for our children, too.   There was a scavenger hunt for the kids, a craft, and a place where we could dress up as people from the Nativity as a family.  I am so grateful for all the hard work that went into this incredible event. It was a blessing in our family's life and a brand new tradition.

Christmas Lights and Christmas Village at the Speedway

Grandpa Bud came to visit us this weekend and we went to the Christmas lights at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.  They had a fun Christmas Village there, too.  We had a great time making memories together.

Santa was there and we stood in line to take pics with him.

There was even a place to write and mail letters to Santa.  Ryan wrote a very sweet letter.

Next to Santa was his workshop.  The kiddos made ornaments.

Outside there was a petting zoo.  Ryan really wanted to feed the baby goats.  He would pull the food away when the bigger goats would come up.

They had pony rides that Molly and Ryan enjoyed.

And there was awesome wipeout inflatable game that the boys HAD to try.  I think it was their favorite part of the evening.

We love when Grandpa Bud visits and had a wonderful weekend with him!

Our family tradition has been for me to take each of our children to the Nutcracker in first grade and for them to choose their own nutcracker.  This year, Molly's friend was in a local performance of the Nutcracker, so she got to go in Kindergarten instead. She chose a Clara nutcracker.  Molly loved the ballet and begged to be in it next year.

The dancers were very talented and the Columbia Ballet had its own unique twist on the Nutcracker Ballet that included Scarlett O'Hara as a Christmas Eve Party guest. However, I think next year, I will still take her to the School of the Arts Performance.  It will always be my favorite.

Ryan's Holiday Concert

Ryan's class performed at his new school's Holiday Concert.  He was such a cutie!!!

Thanksgiving Feast in Andrew's Class

Andrew's teachers allowed the parents to host a Thanksgiving feast for the entire fourth grade.  There was so much food that the kids got to come back for thirds!!!

Isn't this cake adorable?!!?  I wish I had made it.

I am grateful this holiday season that my son has made good friends here and that our new school has so many wonderful and supportive parents, just like our old one.

Halloween 2014

I had the opportunity to help set up Halloween parties for all three kids on Friday.  I am the room mom for Andrew and Molly's classrooms, so I was in charge of organizing their parties.  Ryan's, I just got to help out with.  I had to room hop to all of the parties, so I only got to spend a short time with each of them, but I am glad I got to be there.

When we got home from school, our cousins came to spend the weekend with us! We played the candy pot lid game and ordered pizza.

Then of course, we got to go trick-or treating together in our new neighborhood, which was AWESOME!  Everyone in our part of the neighborhood sat outside in the driveways and front porches to hand out candy.  We had 100 kids come by before it started to thunderstorm.

Ben and Jen dressed up as a Ghostbuster and a Ghost.

Chad was a very hot Clark Kent.

The kiddos did a great job with their pumpkins this year.  They chose their designs and did them with almost no assistance from us.

Ryan's was Thor's hammer.

Molly painted hers with snowflakes...because "pumpkin insides are soooo yucky, Mommy."

Andrew's Lord of the Rings pumpkin says "One pumpkin to rule them all" in Elvish.

The next morning, the children set up a candy store in Ryan's room and spent several hours sorting and trading candy. I loved doing this with my cousins when I was little.  Watching them brought back so many happy memories.
